My healing didn’t begin in a clinic, it began in my own body. Burnout, autoimmunity, and disordered eating made me question what true wellness really is.
This is my story...
The diagnosis that changed everything
At a very young age, I was diagnosed with the autoimmune condition, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.
The medical advice was simple: a daily pill and yearly blood tests for life. But no one explained the root cause or addressed the many symptoms that followed me silently.
Behind the smile
As a teenager, I was a competitive ballroom dancer and high-achieving student.
On the outside, I looked accomplished. On the inside, I was battling anxiety, perfectionism, and worry.
After I stopped dancing and went through puberty, I gained weight and that moment opened the door to disordered eating and body image struggles.
When food lost its joy
Food stopped being a source of joy. I avoided social situations that involved eating out, I was constantly focused on my weight, and it consumed every aspect of my life.
It wasn’t always like that.
As a child in my Nona’s kitchen, food was a celebration. We’d turn mountains of potato and flour into soft pillows of gnocchi, then devour second (sometimes third) bowls with laughter and joy. It was about connection, tradition, and love.
In my mid-20s and 30s, I entered the corporate world with long hours and high pressure. I controlled what I ate. I exercised relentlessly. I believed sleep was optional and productivity was everything. Fat was the enemy. Frozen veggies zapped in the microwave passed as “nutrition.”
I lived this way for two decades.
If only I'd known then what I know now: burnout and the wake-up call
Eventually, my body started to fight back with anxious energy, restless sleep, digestive issues, and low mood. I kept pushing… until burnout hit hard at 35.
Wanting to start a family became my wake-up call. I had to face how my perfectionism and rigidity were damaging my health, my relationships, and triggering new autoimmune issues.
Finding my way back
Through it all, my curiosity never left me. I kept searching, learning, digging deeper to somehow heal and feel better.
I started exploring Yoga Philosophy and Functional Nutrition, and slowly, the dots began to connect. I began to understand how food, thoughts, stress, and lifestyle all work together. I started to unlearn. To slow down. To heal.
Today, I’ve found relief from the symptoms that once drained my energy. I nourish myself — not just with food, but with presence, rest, ancient wisdom, and small daily rituals that keep me grounded and whole.
From healing to Wholesome Human
What began as a personal journey became something more, a calling. I created Wholesome Human to share the tools, insights, and nourishment that helped me find my way back to myself.
My vision is simple: To inspire you to notice what truly nourishes you, on and off the plate, and to support you in creating a vibrant, disease-free life.
When I’m not researching, cooking, or writing, you’ll find me with my spirited tweens and adventurous husband, on the yoga mat, pickleball court, planning a retreat, or simply savouring the moment over a cuppa with cherished family and friends.
This journey is still unfolding for me, my family, and every Wholesome Human finding their way back to themselves.
